Welcome to our website about art on the University of Bayreuth campus. Take a stroll through the green parkland of the campus and discover an impressive collection of contemporary works of art that has grown continuously since the university opened in 1975.

Particularly striking are the works “Raumkurve” by Norbert Kricke, “TrashStone” by Wilhelm Mundt and the six figures by Stephan Balkenhol. These works of art invite you to pause and experience the connection between science, art and architecture.

The “Raumkurve” by Norbert Kricke, a filigree steel sculpture, explores the space with minimalist means and symbolizes freedom and change. Once you walk around it, the sculpture constantly changes its shape as if by magic, depending on where the viewer is standing.

The “TrashStone” by Wilhelm Mundt, a shiny sculpture made of recycled material, stands between the university administration and the sports center. This sculpture fascinates with its unusual shape and the idea of recycling.

The six figures by Stephan Balkenhol, spread across the central square and the inner access road, depict everyday people and invite a dialog about the everyday and the extraordinary. The bronze figures, which look like wood, stand on pillars and are reminiscent of the tradition of ancient and modern sculpture.

On the subpages of this website you will find detailed information on the individual works of art, the artists, the year of creation and the exact locations on campus. Be inspired and discover the art on the University of Bayreuth campus.
